Tell Me Lies’ Grace Van Patten Shares Rare Insight Into Romance With Costar Jackson White

No lies here: Grace Van Patten and Jackson White are very different from their onscreen characters.
While, yes, the Tell Me Lies costars are dating IRL, their offscreen relationship is nothing like the toxic dynamic they portray in the Hulu series.
"Because we established that dynamic first season, the second season was a lot easier to switch on and off," Grace told E! News at Disney's 2024 Emmys after-party Sept. 15. "And we're so different from these characters, so it's honestly just an opportunity to get all of our bad feelings out so that there's none left by the time we go home."
As the 27-year-old, who started dating Jackson during the Tell Me Lies audition process, noted, they never carry any residual feelings off-screen.
"He is very good at that part, which is a little concerning," she teased, "but he's just a very good actor."
And now that season two has premiered, picking up with Lucy (Grace) and Stephen (Jackson) back at college after a disastrous breakup at the end of season one, fans can't help but wonder what lies ahead for Grace's character.
"I hope she gets to know herself a little bit better and gets what she deserves," Grace told E!, "which is not what she's being put through right now. And also to grow herself, probably go to therapy and figure some things out before being in a relationship."
As for what the show's storylines have taught her?
"It is constantly learning what not to do with this show," Grace explained. "It's a lot of lessons in terms of how not to treat people and not to lie and to be as truthful to yourself as possible, which is really hard at that age when you're still discovering yourself."
"I've learned a lot about my younger self," Grace added, "and also just trying to grow through that."
